Cloud City — Concept Painting

McQuarrie’s Cloud City concept envisioned a floating metropolis suspended in the upper atmosphere of a gas giant — elegant, symmetrical, and impossibly graceful. The design drew from Art Deco architecture and 1930s futurism, creating a location that felt simultaneously luxurious and precarious. The warm, golden light suffusing the city provided a deliberate visual contrast with the cold blue-whites of Hoth and the murky greens of Dagobah, giving The Empire Strikes Back a rich chromatic journey.
