lucas x-wing starfighter origins concept

One of the earliest known sketches of the starfighter that would become the X-Wing, drawn by George Lucas himself during the earliest development of The Star Wars. The rough pencil drawing shows the distinctive cross-shaped wing configuration that Lucas envisioned — a small, agile fighter that could stand in stark contrast to the massive Imperial warships. This napkin sketch would later be handed to concept artist Colin Cantwell, who translated Lucas’s vision into the three-dimensional models that defined a generation of science fiction design.
