Alderaan Cityscape — Concept Painting

McQuarrie’s vision of Alderaan presented a world of elegant spires and sweeping organic architecture — a civilization so beautiful that its destruction would register as a genuine tragedy. The painting established the visual language of the Republic’s refined culture, a stark contrast to the Empire’s angular brutalism. Though Alderaan appears only briefly in the original film before its obliteration, McQuarrie’s concept work gave the planet enough visual identity to make its loss meaningful.
